Date Formats

Would it be possible to allow date fields to be formatted according to regional preferences? Or have the fields set to a format which removes ambiguity between regions?

I am currently working on a form which will be used globally and it would be useful to have the date format set as DD-MMM-YY or have the form display the date based on where the user is based.
